What is Soma pill?

Soma is a wonderful painkiller that works amazingly on pain especially on the acute pain. Technically, pains are of two types- Acute and Chronic.  The pain med is a muscle relaxer that works on the pain by blocking the sensation between the nerves and the brain. The generic name of Soma pill is Carisoprodol which belongs to muscles relaxant group. Soma pill is also used together with rest and physical therapy to treat the skeletal muscle conditions in pain or injury.



Is the pain med Narcotic?

Soma pill is a class IV controlled drug but it is not classified as a narcotic. But for its addictive properties, the drug is removed from many countries. Soma pill has sedatives effects as it has a high potential to be abused. So it recommended using the drug under a proper supervision of a doctor

How to dose the pain med?

Before you start with the dose, it is always advisable for you to follow your doctor’s prescription. This is just a general idea or guidelines as to how to you can dose the medicine-

  • You can take the pill with food or without food as directed by your doctor


  • You can usually take this pain med for three times a day and also at bedtime.


  • Go with your doctor’s prescription while taking the amount of the medication; do not go for a large amount or a small amount unless you are advice to


  • Soma pill can be Habit- forming so, never share the medicine with any other person, especially with someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. This can form a habit-forming if those people come in contact with the medicine


  • Soma pill should be used for only a short span of time say for two to three weeks, until and unless your doctor tells you to continue.


Soma (Carisoprodol) Warnings

If you are allergic to Carisoprodol then you should not go for Soma pill as this may cause some serious issue.  Here are the following conditions that you should consult with your doctor before taking the pain med-

  • Poor kidney function
  • Poor liver function
  • A history of or risk of seizures
  • A history of drug or substance abuse
  • Sensitivity to the drug meprobamate
  • Sensitivity to the drug felbamate (Felbatol)
  • Acute intermittent porphyria

  • Dry eyes
  • A headache
  • Constipation
  • Trouble urination
  • Sleepiness or drowsiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
